Te Wairahi Nursery are looking for a Taiao Superstar

Position: Native nursery worker

Hours: 30hr Per week

Salary: $24/hr

 

 

Whananaki Taiao Nursery is focused on “Growing Excellence”- providing a safe and nurturing environment for our people, our plants, and our community. We are looking for a Native Nursery worker.

The role is focused on delivering coordinated native nursery-based activities to assist in optimising resource use, minimizing production costs, and maintaining quality standards. Whananaki Taiao is a combination of 2 partnerships consisting of Whakapaumahara Marae and Whananaki CLD both of which drive this project forward.

 

Skills and Experience

●     A Strong Knowledge of native seed collection and propagation is a preferred 

●     Experience in establishing and maintaining Food crops including vegetables and fruit trees.

●     Experience in permaculture and Food Forests is advantageous.

●     Good time management, and organisational skills

●     People oriented with a focus on community involvement

●     Good communication skills

●     Tracks and rollers cert would be great, otherwise willingness to obtain with our support.

●     An adequate level of fitness and strength will be required for this role.

An overall appreciation of Te Reo me Ōna Tikanga including the relationship of Tangata Whenua with their whenua, waterways, sea and Te Taiao.


 

Key responsibilities

●     Maintenance of nature blocks for plant health issues including pests and disease, rogues, and viruses

●     Assist in the general maintenance of blocks, including pest management, planting out, pruning, and weed eradication.

●     Assist in native restoration, regenerative planting and Riparian planting.

●     Maintaining native seedlings and potted plants to the highest standard on a day-to-day basis

●     Where required assist with outdoor commercial gardens (Maara Kai & Small orchard which include pruning, sowing, harvesting etc.

●     Prepare for dispatch of stock to customers.

●     Tool and machinery maintenance
